Check Out Edi McGarry’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edi McGarry.

Hi Edi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a flight attendant with JetBlue Airways for 9 1/2 years and after the pandemic, I decided to resign and pursue permanent make up and continued on to get my esthetician license. I opened up Maud House Beauty in 2023 in Old Town Plaza San Clemente. She’s my Barbie dream shop.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The industry is competitive. Permanent make up, still falls under the beauty category and it’s just cut throat. I wouldn’t say it’s saturated, there’s just a lot of amazing artists out there. And through building this business and finding what made me most happy as an artist (which was just more eyebrow shaping waxing, laminating & tinting.) I realized I don’t have to be good at everything and I would rather not gate keep another artist who is impeccable with what they do. I’ve met a lot of amazing people throughout this journey. Very supportive people. Artists and clients alike. But there’s also a lot of mean girls out there. I mean it’s Orangecounty…..lol

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started in permanent makeup and realized that I just have a love for brows in general. And found my strengths in eyebrow shaping, waxing, tinting and laminating. I also have had other artists in my shop renting from me that do permanent make up, so I was always trying to support who was under my roof at the time too. We have to build each other up as artists. But my artistry is vast and wide. I sing and write music and recently wrote a full-blown album within this last year in my beauty shop. And have been recording with my producer… I know that is the direction the Lord is sending me. So the shop could literally change with the seasons…it can be a beauty shop, a rehearsal studio… it can be anything it wants to be, just like me.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Oh I’m definitely a risk taker. I always have been. And there’s been moments I have jumped before I thought everything through and have learned through those lessons. But I took a pretty big risk doing what I’ve been doing these past, almost 5 years this spring… I left a major airline, after the world changed, to chase a dream God kept calling me to… the dream has changed a bit…it’s morphed…but it’s the same…it’s beauty driven cause that is art, art is beauty. Art is ever changing or morphing. It was a pleasure to see the art of God helping me pay two $13,000 loans off in 3 years…. that I pulled out to do this and just life! lol talk about art…. in this economy?! It really was a miracle. A risk I took, and He caught me. So go for it. Jump!
