Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jonathan Haynes
Hi Dr. Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started at the age of 18 years old, right out of high school. I knew I wanted to be successful, but I didn’t know quite yet what. But I knew I had a passion for singing. So I became a substitute teacher, and when I was around 19 years old, a young little boy came up to me and said, This is not what you want to do; follow your dreams.” I remember crying and saying, Wow, I had never seen him before, and I knew that was God.” I looked back, and 9 years later, I’m living my dreams.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I struggled with thinking I’m not good enough and I should be farther than where I was, and that led me to multiple suicide attempts, drug use, and just not being who I was because at the time I was competing with other people when God already had my lane assigned to me and I wasn’t paying attention, but I wouldn’t change anything because I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for those road blocks.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do so much. I’m a gospel award-winning recording artist, 5X best-selling author, motivational speaker, mental health coach, work in corporate America, podcaster, I’ve got an apparel clothing line, and so much more. I love to stay busy. So I specialize in music, books, speaking, coaching, etc. I’m most proud of doing everything I said I wanted to do and fulfilling my dreams. What sets me apart is that I’m not trying to compete with anyone. I’m doing what I do because God gave me another chance to do it.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as doing what you love and achieving what you set out to do. Yes, the money is good, and networking is good, but being passionate and loving what you do is what success looks like to me. I am happy that I do what I love.
