Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna McDaniel.
Hi Donna, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was a backup singer and performer touring all over the world with Motley Crue, Billy Idol, Toto, and Glen Frey, as well as working for Disney. When I would come off tour, I was planning and catering my friends’ parties and weddings. So, when I stopped touring after 10 years, I started my Business, “Bella Donna Special Events,” and never looked back. We have been so blessed to have survived the pandemic and also bought an English Tea Company called “Anyone for Tea Catering,” which has been very successful in planning Baby showers, Bridal Showers, and Even Tea Party Weddings. Joined by my husband Tom, we are a family business working along with my son; we have been so lucky to have touched on great success running these two businesses.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surviving the Pandemic was probably our most difficult experience ever. We gratefully never closed because we were a bakery, and we could stay open during this time. Finding ways outside the box to make boxed lunches, dinners, and even tea parties proved to be a challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets us apart from others, I believe, is our customer service. We are always accessible by phone, text, or email, and we always get back to our clients within 24 hours.
We specialize in Beautiful Cakes and fun catered events with beautiful decor.
Every event has lovely floral pieces, gorgeous China, and great friendly staff.
I know it may not be the trend to call clients, but I feel that personal touch is what is being lost with a lot of internet businesses.
Also, this kind of personal touch helps nervous clients throwing big events a feeling of security that you don’t get just texting or emailing.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I am a definite risk-taker. Anyone who takes the leap of faith in starting their own business is a risk taker. Following your dreams and investing in yourself and something that you love takes courage faith, and hard work to make if happen. I am happy to say that my entire career as a singer and as an entrepreneur was taking a risk to do what I loved and to choose to never be trapped into a job that I didn’t love. That is my definition of a happy place.
