Today we’d like to introduce you to Dommie Mommie.
Hi Dommie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started “Dommie juice” in 2015. I had just given birth to my beautiful baby girl and really felt that I was ready to take a different approach with my career life. At the time, I was working as a home health aid caregiver not only was the job too time-consuming being as tho I was a newfound parent but the actual job itself just wasn’t my passion… one day, I went out with my girlfriends actually my first time out on the town after had given childbirth we went to visit a college campus for a concert the college being “Cheney university” and while there I realized with all the fun goin on the concert is missing a very important attraction which is alcohol.. because what’s a party without alcohol right? Lol, it was at that moment I came up with an idea that if I had some for sell, I could make a killing because everyone here needs some right now without the hassle of leaving the concert and taking a trip to the liquor store but liquor actually being catered and present to the people… I went home and I introduced the idea to my child’s father and he thought it was a great idea… not only did I have the personality but I had the following the only thing I did not have is any experience, lol… I had no idea whatsoever how to mix a drink but I absolutely had a vision. My child’s father who was of Trinidadian descent knew how to make a nice rum punch drink… so the 1st drink/flavor I ever stocked and sold was his idea/ingredients he would help me make them I started out making them in mason jars with fresh fruit. Putting them in the trunk of my car and goin out to sell them at cookouts, parties, any outdoor gatherings really at the time.
My 1st time selling dommie juice, I made $800 in about an hour! The money was great but the experience was even better! I loved connecting with new people. Being the person at the party to provide the spirits and getting others lit and happy, lol… I had made such a name for myself and my drinks that people began wanting them at their parties, baby showers, cooperate events, grand openings, etc. and I inspired so many people in my city to do exactly what I was doing that I then decided to host a class teaching others how to mix drinks and run a mobile business. It became so high in demand that I went and leased a space to start a school. Thus “Bartender 2 the rescue” was born… I not only taught men & women the skill, I’ve gotten people certifications and jobs… since starting dommie juice, I’ve been able to create other lanes and new business ventures… I offer mobile delivery services, private catering, classes and I’ve had the pleasure of giving back into the community by hiring people to work for me garnering experience while making money. I’ve been on the morning news, radio talk shows, I’ve done tours to many different cities, etc. I still have my school and I have a mobile business van that has my logo and business information plastered over it… while I am very appreciative and happy with how far I’ve come, I am nowhere near done. I have big plans! And so much in store for not only myself but the world as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve definitely had some bumps along the way. From dealing with fake slander to business partners/deals going south. I even had some time off from my businesses and I thought it may have harmed me by taking so much time off but it actually made it better… I know the pandemic had literally put a lot of people out of business but it grew mine. So minor struggles but all necessary in order for me to keep going and prevail
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d say artist/creative because I am a self-taught entrepreneur.. everything that I do is self-taught and my own ideas… I make the best drinks, my presentation is A.1. I taught myself how to run a bartending school and the mixed drinks I teach are hella creative and different. I specialize in creating vibes! All of that is what separates me from others. I do my own thing, I am a curator and I help others along the way.. the thing that makes me most proud of myself and my business is the fact that I never gave up. No matter what. Consistency is my greatest attribute and what has also gotten me this far and will continue to.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to stay consistent in whatever you do. Do not get comfortable ever. Keep going! Being an entrepreneur isn’t for the weak! Your goin to have long nights, your goin to have bumps along the road, some days will be better than others but you must stay focused on your goal. As long as you believe in yourself, you are already successful.
