Check Out Dennett Rivera’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennett Rivera.

Hi Dennett, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My artistic name is NÖMAD, I am an afro-Latino rapper and songwriter that focuses on genres such as trap, afro-house, dancehall, and reggaeton. I started to make music 4 years ago. Back then, I was just a kid who liked to compose songs and perform. One day, a very dear friend, and grammy nominated engineer, Dylan Del Olmo, offered me to record my songs and from that moment on, when I got in front of that mic…

I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. 4 years later, this year 2022, I can say that this has been one of the most important years for my career, and life in general, since I was able to give my first shows here in Los Angeles, before that I had only had the opportunity to perform in my hometowns Panama and Mexico. I’ve collaborated with a lot of different producers and artists from around the world, who I have met here in LA, many of these crazy talented people also have helped finish my next audiovisual project which will be an album of 9 songs, along with their music videos.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a path of much learning, I wouldn’t say hard, but a path where I have had to reflect a lot and be honest with myself about what is my purpose as a musical artist and look for what is my differential factor between me and other artists. It has been years of a lot of practice with millions of studio sessions, piano and singing lessons, millions of written songs, and…to be honest…millions of video tutorials on youtube on topics related to my craft as well (lol) … all this has allowed me to find my voice and prepare myself and develop as an artist.

Thank god that life has given me the right people, the right opportunities, and the right situations that have helped me grow. Everything I have wanted to happen in my career has been fulfilled because I have manifested it. From my shows to this very interview! In conclusion, it’s been a road where there have been victories, learning new stuff as well as unlearning old stuff, and frustrations from time to time, but hey…that’s the way it is. We still standing up baby!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Afro-Latino rapper, composer, performer, and actor. I am also a traveler…I have had the opportunity to live in three countries at a young age. That’s why my stage name is NÖMAD because I am a citizen of the world. I specialize in connecting with my audience through the stories I tell in my music and music videos.

I am proud to represent the Afro-Latino culture here in Los Angeles and to be blessed to be talented and to be able to express my ideas and vibes through art. What makes me different from others is that I am a privileged black man, who has had the opportunity to be around many cultures and customs other than my own. All those experiences I try to project into my art. I have a clear vision and what my real goal is in the future as well… I, NÖMAD, will be the bridge between African and Latin music globally. I’m working on it.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I’ve got too many…but probably play football (soccer) with my friends in my neighborhood in Panama.

A typical Sunday at 12 noon, with Hot weather and a lot of humidity. Imagine 20 kids running down the street chasing a ball, playing with crocs, all sweaty, while salsa songs were playing in the background. Oh, man…I live for those memories.
