Today we’d like to introduce you to Delanie Wiedrich Kaitlin Triplett.
Hi Delanie Wiedrich, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are both Midwest transplants and have been “on the grind” here in Los Angeles for several years. Over the course of those years, we, like most people, have experienced our fair share of rejection. In January of 2024, after a particularly painful rejection, we met up for a coffee date to discuss what it would be like to create our own opportunities, not only for ourselves but for others as well. Thus, AnyWay, was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has been a trial by fire experience! We each bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to the table, but you don’t know what you don’t know until you need to know it. Choosing to produce a new works festival with 12 different scripts was a major undertaking for our first ever production. There have been moments when we weren’t sure if we would be able to find enough directors, actors or pull the funds together or even lock in a venue in time.
However, we have learned to lean on each other and our community members for support. Whether it’s through fundraising and financial support, finding venues or discovering new talent, we have learned that everything will come together in the end if you push through the fear and doubt. Even when we are scared, we do it anyway!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Katie is a director, writer and producer from a small town in northwest Illinois. She earned her B.A in Theatre Directing and Management from The University of Nebraska – Lincoln where she assisted, produced and directed plays for the University Theatre, the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, and the student-run theatre company Theatrix; she also interned with the Saratoga Shakespeare Company and Powerhouse Theatre during her undergraduate career. Katie specializes in directing Shakespeare and new play development, but she has a soft spot in her heart for both making and watching musical theatre. Her artistic manifesto is guided by the freedom that comes with taking risks, as well as a belief in radical inclusion and accessibility for artists and audiences alike.
Delanie originally hails from a small town in North Dakota where she learned early on the importance of creating your own opportunities. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Delanie is an experienced actor and singer having begun her professional career almost a decade ago. Some of her favorite credits include Christine Colgate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Edwin Drood in The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Amneris in Aida. However, one of her favorite stages she has ever performed on was at the Atlantic City Boardwalk as Miss North Dakota at the 2015 Miss America competition. She is also a passionate children’s theatre director and LGBTQ+ advocate. Delanie believes there is great power in being fearless and the importance of working together to forge a path forward for all artists.
Our mission is to amplify marginalized and emerging voices and foster a community for artists to explore new possibilities through theatre and film production. We aim to cultivate an artistic community where overlooked voices are centered and artists are empowered to explore new roles in a safe and fun environment. AnyWay Productions is committed to fostering a safe environment for creatives to experiment and push beyond their comfort zones. Have you never tried writing before? Send us your script! Want to direct for the first time or get on stage to perform? Let us help you! Anyway is founded on the principle of “Even if you’re scared…do it anyway!” We aim to build a community dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices, providing exceptional, fun and safe learning environments, producing high quality productions and giving people the opportunity to TRY.
We are so proud of our inaugural production, The Greenhouse : An Emerging Voices Festival, because it encompasses our mission, vision and values. As we grow, we plan to produce full scale theatre productions, musical and films.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Everything we do, whether its choosing scripts, casting or even how we post on social media, it all comes back to our values. The first is making sure we are centering diversity, equity and inclusion. We are committed to platforming gender marginalized, LGBTQIA+ and global majority artists. Second is community. We hope to connect local creatives, foster positive working relationships and build a network of likeminded artists of varying backgrounds and experience levels.
