Check Out Debora Amiliay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debora Amiliay

Hi Debora, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My Story started years ago, when I was a lil kid, loving to photograph all my friends and to coordinate outfits and concepts.
Back then I felt it to the bones, that this is 100% fulfilling me.

As a teenager I kinda lost track of my true passion for a while but I am so glad I found back to my creative self.
I got back into photography, taught myself new skills and started organizing photoshoots. In those shoots I would style the outfits of the models myself and looking for a nice location myself too. Additionally I taught myself how to edit so I would literally do a whole shoot from concept to editing.

And over a few years I just got better and better and worked with bigger and bigger teams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think pursuing your career ever goes smooth .. haha at least mine was not.
It took me a while to even figure out, what exactly I wanted to do.

Being fully self-taught I often thought I would never get a job or be as good as someone who went to school for it.
So sometimes I been a bit hopeless, thankfully I never gave up on my dream!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I am a Photographer, Director and Stylist!
I used to work as a full-time Stylist for one of the biggest Swiss Fashionstores and besides that I was working as a freelance Photographer and Art Director.

Thanks to those different roles I was working in, I now have experience in it all which helps me a lot while being an Art or Creative Director. I know what to look out for and understand the details and connections from all of these jobs on set.

This helps a lot to create a vision and to bring it to life!

I am known for showing a story through my pictures. Not just to show cool pictures, but actually showing the meaning behind the pictures or the model itself. So I often also add a written deeper story to the pictures description, which then challenges the viewer to think.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Be authentic!

I don’t like this fakeness or competition that is often attached to fashion. What for?
We are all on a different path anyways.
I am big on supporting and inspiring each other while staying true to ourselves.
