Check Out David Logeman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Logeman.

Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I manage and book a music group called The Surf City Allstars. The Surf City Allstars include musicians and singers from the original Beach Boys (Al Jardine & David Marks), Jan&Dean (Dean Torrence), and musicians from both of these touring bands. I am also a professional drummer who has toured with Frank Zappa, Bette Midler, Three Dog Night, Jan&Dean, and The Beach Boys. I am currently producing and recording an “unplugged” Greatest Hits of The Beach Boys with all the original members.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was hired as the drummer for Jan&Dean back in the 80s. Through Dean Torrence, I was able to perform in 1990 with Beach Boy Brian Wilson, although Brian had left the Beach Boys by then. In 1995 Mike Love, the lead singer of The Beach Boys, hired me. Even though I did not end up as the “official” drummer for the Beach Boys, I did perform shows with Mike, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine, and David Marks. Later I also recorded with Beach Boy Carl Wilson. After I left touring with The Beach Boys band, I started the Surf City Allstars in 1999. It was tough to get that off and running. When Jan Berry died in 2004, that was a rough time as well. Ultimately, I made a deal for Dean Torrence to tour with The Surf City Allstars as well as original Beach Boys Al Jardine and David Marks.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love performing the greatest hits of The Beach Boys and Jan&Dean. That music is what The Surf City Allstars specialize in because all of the band members performed in both bands. I am most excited about the new recording project that I am finishing up right now that is The Beach Boys greatest hits “unplugged” with just vocals and acoustic instruments. No official release date is set yet, but I hope the project is released in 2026. I have been playing this music for 40 years and I love the opportunity to put these great songs in a new fresh setting for all the Beach Boy and Jan&Dean fans.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is getting my first drum at age five. It was a marching drum that I got for Christmas in 1958. I loved that drum and marched around my neighborhood on every sidewalk that I could. It was the start of a beautiful journey in music.
