Check Out Darnel Beasley’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnel Beasley.

Hi Darnel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is all about determination because I’ve always known the great gifts this world has to offer. Every gift has been presented as an opportunity first. It has been up to me to decipher great opportunities from good opportunities. I’ve always known I wanted to be great so there was only left one option in this case.

Everything I have mentioned goes hand and hand with my Barber career & it illustrates vibrantly through my works of art. Nothing has ever come easy to me, nor on time but whatever I could shed light on, I did so and the Blessings have been plentiful… But there is always more to conquer, and there is always space for improvement, so I will never become complacent or ungrateful because through my journey toward my definition of success, I’ve accomplished one thing, and that’s knowing there’s always more work to be done and it is not me that makes it possible it is Jesus Christ.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sometimes I wish alot of things had come easier for me, but unfortunately, it has not been that way. Even during high school, I mainly sported my older brothers’ “hand me downs” and still created an avenue to be awarded “Best Dressed”. During my journey to becoming a barber, I had just relocated from Boston, MA, knowing no one In this new state, only knowing I was searching for a new start, a brighter, fresh start. Not that my previous life was bad but I now knew I wanted my own craft. I wanted a craft that I could drop what I was doing anywhere and make money or help someone, or do both in the process! In any case, during Barber school, I was a new Comer to a different state from that of which I’d grown up in. On top of my pregnant wife, I already had five boys at home to feed ranging from ages 3 to 18. During barber school, I first would wake up at 2-3am to load 52ft 18-wheeler trailer trucks for UPS. The pay was nothing short of horrible. Less than 200 a week working 2am-9am four days a week. When I left that job to provide for my family during barber school, I then found a security job which made things a little better and ultimately lasted until I graduated.

Long story short, every challenge that could have been thrown at me last year during barber school got thrown at me. I even lost my father during Barber school and he was my best friend. Through everything, I prayed and made sure my bond with God was never left astray. Failure was never an option. After graduation, I joined a barbershop which only paid 60% of my earnings with me being a new barber. I used this and my now six boys at home to make me the best Barber I could be, taking over that world one haircut at a time (in two-week intervals, of course, haha). Anyhow, life was beginning to seem bright since I’ve always kept at least a part-time job since 14 years old and I was now receiving an opportunity to do something that I actually love. I fit in well at this barber shop that I but it only took me 4-5 months to realize I’d already outgrown my environment. Such a bittersweet feeling as I recalled. Here I was having gained lots of clientele that I knew I could not retain 100%, as I began to pave my own way towards 100% earnings.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Barber newly located to the LA California and surrounding area’s I specialize in hairline reinforcement. I am good at making your current hairline a desired style regardless of receding or not. I’m very good at lining Beards like Rick Ross’s, haha. I guess I specialize in kids since I have 6 sons and have gained experience through them along the whole journey. I also feel I specialize in close detail work because I’m somewhat of a perfectionist. I want to learn to specialize in micro pigmentation in the future. SMP.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself cutting hair and owning my own SMP establishment.
