Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Page.
Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Throughout my early twenties I would daydream about my future career and being so fulfilled by my work and its purpose. I used to brainstorm ways I could be entrepreneurial, create community, and do something meaningful. The vision was not clear so I never knew what it would be or look like. After college, I felt extremely lost and fell into television production jobs. One day, while working in TV, I was asked to run a favor for the art department – to pick up flowers for an episode scene. On set, I cut the flowers and put them in water, and in that simple task, my life changed forever. It sounds dramatic, but it is true! I had never once thought about flowers or any form of artwork as a profession, and somehow, in this one experience, I saw new possibilities for myself. I was already determined to find something else, and I firmly believe we all need to get to a certain level of desperation before being willing and deciding to make a change. I was ready to listen, to see the signs, and get curious about what else was out there. So, within the same week, I walked into a flower shop and started learning as much as I could about the industry as an intern. Whenever doubts about this pursuit popped up, I would go back to that first aha moment on the TV set at the sink. I kept trusting myself no matter what challenges I had to overcome. Mostly thanks to my intuition, I have had my own floral design business for four years now, and it is still the guiding force behind all of my decisions. My career path has been an incredibly personal journey of creativity and authenticity. The fact that I get to share my experience of art and nature with clients and a larger community is extremely rewarding. Even if my younger daydreams did not make sense back then, I understand it all so clearly now and am forever grateful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is the most wild ride you can possibly imagine! There have been no smooth roads while navigating how to turn a creative art form into a business. There is no formula; no one tells you what to do. Small businesses are so unique and personal that even if there was a recipe, it would not work for everyone! I think learning this was a major struggle for me because I felt like I was doing it all wrong. Turns out some of the areas I thought I was weak in became strengths when I chose to look at them differently. For instance, I thought I needed one specific type of floral design style to define me like I had seem other florists accomplish. I spent a lot of time wondering what that would look like and worried I was not innovative enough. Over time, years even, I finally realized my strong suit and passion is to collaborate with clients, to bring their vision to life, and add my own original spin to it! It feels like we can both fuel each other through the creative process, and it has allowed me to explore all different types of design styles. By focusing on this part of my business, I have stopped comparing and prioritized staying curious and inspired by my field forever.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a floral designer located in Venice Beach. I customize florals for brands, events, and private clients. I make original pieces every single time, so when you order with me, it is a personal experience.
