Today we’d like to introduce you to Daija Moore Evans.
Hi Daija, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid, I always wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry. I love music! At first, I thought I’d be the next Beyoncé but then one day as I got older, I thought to myself, “how cool would it be to get advice from my favorite celebrities? How cool would it be to talk to them and ask the questions fans like I want to know?” That’s when it all hit me!
During my senior year of high school, I started planning to launch my own talk show. It was called, “Imperfect Talkshow” which was a follow-up to a blog I already had called, “Imperfectly Beautiful.”
When I graduated high school, I went off to community college where I joined “Montco Radio” and I’ve been inseparable from radio since then (2016). I transferred from community college to Temple University, where I continued my show “Imperfect Talkshow” soon after I won an IBS Award for “Best Talks Program” this was a HUGE college radio accomplishment.
In 2019, my senior year at Temple University, I got hired at my dream publication, iHeartRadio. As time has gone on, from 2019-2023, I got to work my way up to be on Philadelphia radio which is top 10 in the market. On a station I literally grew up listening to as a kid! It’s been a great journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Imposter syndrome is a thing! Getting so overwhelmed and feeling like you’re never going to get your time happens! And in those moments it would be so hard for me to pull myself out of the dark place and remind myself that I can’t give up. Then of course, when you’re chasing a career, there’s a thing called life that has to be balanced and enjoyed. That has been one of the biggest struggles! I want to enjoy being in my twenties while I can.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a board op/producer/part-time on-air talent at iHeartMedia and Power 99 FM in Philadelphia. I also run their social media pages. Outside of my job at the radio station, I work as a social media specialist for a digital marketing company. And I also recently launched my own marketing agency called, The Moore Marketing Agency! Follow us 🙂
I’m proud of my hustle! I’m proud of every time I get up and keep pushing when I’m tired and feel like I’m not seeing the results I want.
