Check Out Curtis Lum’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtis Lum.

Hi Curtis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an actor and producer for about 15 years between Vancouver and Los Angeles.

I first got my start in the entertainment business by throwing big parties in Vancouver with a love for bringing people together and providing opportunities for people to dress up, get out of the house and enjoy themselves.

That desire then led me to becoming a film producer, where I have carried over a lot of my skillsets and similar desires for bringing great people together but now it’s all about creating lasting art that resonates with people around the world.

I’ve also enjoyed a very fulfilling career so far as an actor. I’ve always wanted to become the actor or role model that I wish I had when I was a kid growing up, and I’ve been very blessed to have had the opportunities to portray many different characters in a variety of fantastic projects that I feel represents people that look like me in new ways.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s always going to be bumps along the way. That’s a given in any respective field and especially in this industry. Also, Challenges will never just disappear at any point in our careers, so I’ve just embraced them.

Fortunately, I’ve been the type of person that has learned to always lean into all of my experiences, with both failures and successes alike, in order to constantly evolve and get better.

They’ve literally made me who I am today.

I learned at an early age to appreciate the journey, for all of its bumps, curves and detours because it’s all a part of my story. “The beautiful struggle” if you will. Haha.

But Over the course of my career thus far, I feel that I can confidently say that Things have continuously gotten better for me the more I started trusting myself and my vision for myself as an artist.

Finding our style and our voices is always the goal as artists and I think That once I found that confidence in my vision, it has trickled into everything I do, whether it’s the projects I choose to do or the stories I choose to tell.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a grinder – in everything that I do. And I’ve always taken accountability for my own failures and shortcomings. That has always been my secret weapon as far as my longevity in this business.

I’ve never felt bad about a performance or missing out on a role because for the most part, I can say that I tried my best in the moment and gave it my all. And for the few times I haven’t, I can accept my own mistakes and move on from it, and I do my best to never do it again.

That mentality has been huge for my development as an artist. To keep going and to keep trying. I don’t worry about what I’ve done in the past and I try to put my focus on what’s next. “My next shot will be my best shot” sort of energy.

I suppose at the end of the day, my tenacity comes from my hunger for always wanting to be better than I was yesterday. It keeps me hopeful. Otherwise, I feel like I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think people assume I’m a lot cooler than I actually am lol.

I’m very passionate about the things I’m passionate for but I’m actually quite quirky, and I don’t take life too seriously.
