Check Out Crystal J. Huang’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal J. Huang.

Hi Crystal , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Shanghai, China. My father is a factory manager, and mother is a Doctor. I performed in local city theaters and hosted major events since childhood. I got a Bachelor of Arts degree in Shanghai, then went to the USA and continued my education as a graduate student. Then, I became a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer.

In 2018, I took a major role in the acclaimed stage drama “The Joy Luck Club”, adapted from Amy Tan’s classic novel by the same title. She then came to Los Angeles and attended Speiser & Sturges Acting Studio of Performance.

I have performed many roles in films, some with well-known talents such as Tom Sizemore, Eric Roberts, Michael Madsen, Bai Ling, and others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am a late comer in the movie industry. To me that means in order to reach my dream I have to not only spend more effort than others but also have to take a short cut to catch time.

I believe in my ability in performance and want to play leading roles. But perhaps a lot of actors think the same way, and most of them do not get attention of producers and directors, not because they are not good enough but the roles are limited. My best choice is to produce my own movie and pick myself as the leading actress. It is not easy but my effort made it happen with “Dark Feathers”. I am also making a horror movie by myself and I have plan to make more films in the future.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides making movies, I enjoy dancing and photographing, I used to play music too. In “Dark Feathers” the role I played is a dancer and photographer, that is not coincidence. There was a piano playing scene written but not shot because there is no piano on site.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Many stage performances and hosting major events in Shanghai.
