Check Out Cat Ski’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cat Ski.

Hi Cat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve lived many lives in one lifetime — artist, entrepreneur, corporate executive, mother, daughter. At the heart of it all has been curiosity and a deep desire to keep growing. I began in the arts as a singer and actor, but at the time, opportunities for Asian women were almost nonexistent. I shifted into corporate leadership, eventually serving as a CEO and helping launch consumer brands in the wellness space. For over two decades, I built a career while raising my daughter.

Now, Los Angeles has become the backdrop for my creative return. Storytelling, music, and performance aren’t side projects anymore — they’re central to my life again. What excites me most is weaving together everything I’ve learned: the discipline of business, the resilience of family history, and the vulnerability of art.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a first-generation Korean American in LA came with both gifts and difficulties. My parents came from elite families in Korea but arrived in the U.S. with nothing, and survival was their constant focus. Growing up between cultures, I often felt I didn’t belong fully in either world. That outsider feeling followed me into adulthood — until I learned to see it as a strength rather than a deficit.

On a personal level, my greatest challenge was being disowned by my family for marrying outside my culture. That estrangement lasted more than a decade. And yet, when my father became critically ill, I stepped in to care for him — and in that process, love healed the rift. That experience taught me reconciliation is always possible and that even broken stories can be rewritten.

Professionally, challenges looked different. In corporate spaces, I was often the only Asian woman at the table, navigating both stereotypes and expectations. Instead of letting those experiences define me, I treated every room as an opportunity to adapt, rise, and contribute in ways only I could.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Today, my work spans both the creative and business worlds. As an actor, I recently played a principal role in the musical We Will Rock You – a role traditionally written for an older white male, reimagined for the first time as an Asian woman. I also debuted an original storytelling piece at Manecdotes held at Colony Theatre, a live show where personal stories meet theatre. I’ve also been part of short films that have screened at festivals in LA and beyond, and continue to explore roles that bring depth and complexity.

As a writer, I’m working on an autofiction project drawn from my own journey, a nonfiction book inspired by the 30 jobs I’ve held, and a children’s book about kindness and love. Each project reflects a different piece of my voice — from deeply personal stories to lessons meant to uplift future generations.

I also consult with founders in the wellness and CPG space, helping them bring innovative, accessible products to market. In many ways, it’s all connected: whether in business or on stage, my work is about creating impact through story, vision, and care.

What’s next?
This next chapter is about expansion — sharing my voice more boldly in Los Angeles and beyond as an actor, singer and writer. Artistically, I want to continue developing work that blends performance, music, and storytelling in ways that connect with audiences on an emotional level. Through writing, I hope to leave behind a record of resilience, creativity, and reinvention.

Long-term, my vision is to merge creativity, business, and impact. I want my work to not only entertain, but also inspire and uplift — to remind people that no season of life is wasted, and that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.

For much of my life, my story stayed hidden under duty, expectation, and survival. But like a gem formed under pressure, those experiences gave me strength and clarity. Los Angeles feels like the perfect place to finally let that gem shine.
