Check Out Candy Gonzalez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Gonzalez.

Hi Candy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating from beauty school, I assisted for eight months, then I joined the team of a new trendy salon in Beverly Hills. It was great, I worked there for three years I’ve made great connections and good friends! I was only styling at the time and wanted to do more. I was having a tough time at that point in my career trying to figure out the stylist I was going to be and of course money. One day my mentor messaged me and told me about a new job opportunity. Soon after that, I started working with my mentor at the salon in JC penny. I was so excited to be working and learning once again from him. Then one day my mentor said he was leaving to this new salon “The Salon at Ulta Beauty” And just like that, we both went to Ulta Beauty!

There it was my first day I was so excited everything was so pretty and new. Day 1 onboarding! Yeah, not so fun. Rules after rules after rules, when do they stop? One thing that my mentor and I still joke about is, remember that time you threw your first check and said you can’t live like this!” And we just laugh and laugh. See, the rules are put in place for a reason. To help you succeed to be set up for success!

I started December 26, 2016 with following all these rules and keeping up with the education that Ulta Beauty gives and the guidance they put out for me. Six months later, I was able to pay cash for a surgical procedure that I needed for two years prior. Within the year, I got promoted twice, then in my second year became assistant manager. Being able to go on my first vacation ever was a big deal for me, the purchase of one of my dream cars! My baby a Camaro LT 2017. I’m not done yet; I’ve got more goals to crush!

I currently am at The Salon at Ulta Beauty in Burbank, CA Elite Hairstylist and Assistant Services Manager. I’ve had great learning experiences and great accomplishments working with Ulta Beauty. I am grateful!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, there was definitely struggles along the way! But they make a person stronger. I think my number one struggle was not having enough confidence.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would say I’m known for my braiding and color! Being able to transform hair is such an art. Everyone always tells me that I have an extreme amount of passion and patience. I’m very precise with my lines and clean sectioning. I’m often told I have a gentle hand, I like your braids to look sleek and fresh with out the headache. Color has a big part of my heart, I learned to fall in love with the process of coloring hair. Color theory is hard but the outcome is so beautiful. Not giving up, asking questions 10x in a row until I understood and staying dedicated is what always help me.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how there is always something to do, and if there isn’t just go to the beach! The thing I dislike the most is the traffic!
