Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Smith.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, no.
A lot of people think that everything has been handed to me but don’t know the battles and trials that I have faced. I’ve experienced so many no’s, I’ve experienced so many setbacks, and I’ve experienced battling myself.
Nobody talks about the reality of being intimated or scared of your own potential. I feel like a lot of the time I overthink and over criticize everything when it comes to my artistry. I’m just an artist who wants to put out art that causes a shift, that creates a moment in time, and makes people feel inspired which I know I will / can . But I also have to learn to give myself grace, patience, and trust myself with my art and know that what I create is good and as long as someone can feel inspired by it then I’ve done my job.
Being in college was a really hard time for me, I learned so many lessons about life in general. That time in my life is when things shifted and I learned the truth not only about being hurt by people but ultimately hurting myself. Going through the heartbreaks and experiencing the betrayal by friends was just one thing. But as time progressed and realizing that I too could be my own worst enemy is another.
I feel like when I went through all that turmoil in school it felt like everything was a fight whether it was my personal life or academic life. I felt like I had to fight to be respected, heard, and seen. But I realized sooner or later that it’s not about trying to find that validation from other people it’s about finding validation within yourself, and once I did that’s when everything shifted.
Now that I’m out of school and in the real world I look back at that time and I’m grateful for every experience but ultimately it led me back to God. It taught me a lesson that will still stick with me and now I’m in a place where I can truly focus on me and show myself the love that I should’ve gave to myself in the very first place.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As far as my work I’m a performing artist.
I sing, dance, act, and model! I’d like to think of myself as a jack of all trades. A lot of the times people like to ask me which one is my favorite thing to do the most and I say there isn’t one because each and every last one has a special place in my heart, they all bring out a different side of me, and I truly enjoy what I do which matters the most.
I would like to say I’m known for my music. Two years ago I put out my debut single called “6 Speed” and it did absolutely phenomenal. The feedback and response from everyone was so positive and encouraging, I truly felt so loved. When I put out the song I was in school so I really had to take a step back from music because I had to focus on my studies but ever since the release people have been asking me about more music, music videos, performances-you name it! But I have been working on new music, crafting and cooking up something special for my supporters so be on the lookout.
I’m most proud of myself. Everything that I’ve ever done and accomplished has been given to me by God and my hard work and dedication. A lot of people don’t know how hard I work in order to give my best within my art and I just wanted to pat myself on the back for pushing through no matter what and going after everything and I genuinely can’t wait to keep pushing and striving to reach further heights.
I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I’m in competition within myself. I’m always trying to outdo me. I’m someone who has an eye for detail, relatability, authenticity, and wow factors. When I create and do things within my craft I create based off of those four elements. It helps me to understand what I’m trying to do and push myself further. Even when it comes down to a specific Instagram post I’m very particular about the angle, lighting, song choice etc! I think this all stems from the ambition that I’ve had since I was a child, that drive and fearlessness to be the best that I can be and I will keep going until I reach my goals.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
The most surprising things that people might not know about me…
I would have to say that I have two crooked pinkies, I watch history documentaries for fun, im a very fun/ carefree person , and lastly I’m a very empathetic/nurturing person.
