Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethanie Ackerman
Hi Bethanie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was 16 when I knew I wanted to pursue a career in filmmaking. I first visited the Warner brothers studio tour and was taking an IB film course in High school. Between the two, the love for the craft blossomed!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a mix of smooth sailing and rough waters. I didn’t have a lot of resources where I’m originally from – Indiana – for filmmaking. Sure, my BFA degree is in Media, but it didn’t focus much on film. Film school is hard and grueling, but in the absolute BEST way if this is something you’re meant to do. And I know it’s what I was meant to do, so film school helped make the waters much more smooth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in producing, both executive and line. For those who don’t know, in short, line producing is a lot paperwork and logistics behind the scenes.
What sets me apart from others is likely how much I enjoy doing what a lot of others would call “busy work” or work they just don’t want to do!
I’m a HUGE fan of horror films, so I’d say as far as what I’m known for is working in the horror and thriller genre!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Having a hard-working, go-getter attitude. The film industry isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s tough, especially as a woman. But, I have a very strong ‘I’m going to make this happen’ attitude, and am willing to take whatever challenge comes my way, and I think that’s essential to not only my success, but others who want to be in this industry too.
