Check Out Astro Da Goat’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Astro Da Goat

Hi Astro, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So I’ve been associated with music since I was about 5 years old. My parents would put me into musical classes in elementary school and I kept taking them all the way up to high school. I learned how to play instruments such as piano, drums, guitar, bass and various other commonly known instruments. I started getting into making my own songs and raps in my freshman year of high school. It started when I grew a love for listening to rapper type beat on the internet and the amount of producer friends I had around me at the time. That’s what influenced my goal of being a respected artist one day. Being a first generation American, born to a Trinidadian family, rap music was never played in my house. I was raised on gospel and reggae music so I had to find hip-hop/rap and r&b on my own. I really got into the sound around the age of 13-14 years old, but I found more fulfilling avenues when I started creating my own songs. Learning how to create a song from nothing but inspiration and ideas and turning it into art became addicting. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of creating something that entertains not only you, but people all around the world that may stumble across my music in places where they’d never meet me in and probably never will. My current goal now is to make bodies of work that inspire people, especially the youth. I want to make iconic, timeless music that inspires to youth to not only emulate my sound/lifestyle but to make creative works of art that inspires the youth coming after them and so on. Building a cycle of creativity that would last an eternity is truly the goal. That’s currently the theme of my latest project that’s dropping very, very soon titled “iMM0RT4L”, a project with the goal of being my first step into making lifelong lasting music that people will listen to for generations. A first step into iMM0RT4LiTY for Astro Da Goat.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never once been smooth road, in all honesty, right now is probably the smoothest it’s ever been for me as an artist and that’s because I’ve made small but powerful decisions to become a d.i.y type of artist. I’ve been releasing music since 2020 and in that time I’ve gained and lost so much, especially people. This is a lifestyle that breeds jealousy due to people’s own internal demons, hang ups, and frankly just how they perceive you as person. It showed me how your best friend can be your biggest hater, or how dangerous a yes man can be to your own personal growth. To have the duality and knowledge to decipher those two things separately is a difficult task that can only be achieved through experience. I’m grateful for every lesson and I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. There is no gain without pain and the sooner you learn that the faster you’ll win. It’s not all bad though, you run through enough friend groups you’ll eventually meet some very good people along the way. My current rap/friend group, is called “RCKT” (rocket) or team RCKT like the Pokémon group (no relation). Those people are currently my biggest support group as an artist. They promote and support my music genuinely, we share similar interest and sounds and we keep each other motivated through healthy competition that never, ever turns sour. Our friendship allows us to push our creativity to other envelopes such as fashion and design and whatever avenues our hearts may desire. I’ve dealt with betrayals, misunderstandings, incarcerations, deaths, breakups, false accusations, thefts, scams, sicknesses and awful narratives that have been put on my name, but I’ve never deterred myself away from my path of being the artist I know I will be one day. There’s a lot of beauty in pain, you just got to look for it and grow from it, if you don’t, you’re just bound to face it again till you finally learn.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been praised by my peers and enjoyers of my music many times recently about my vocals/vocalizations, my background vocals to be specific. This is coming off of the reviews of my latest project “b4 iMM0RT4L” and my singles that I’ve been dropping currently on my SoundCloud. I make it a mission on my songs to sound as uniquely myself as possible. I didn’t start rapping to sound like the next rapper who’s already doing their thing. The motive for my background vocals is to create an otherworldly and world building like sound that keeps the listener engaged and intrigued. You have to be a fan of the art in order to make it properly, especially to your own likings. I also try to push the envelope of my sound on each song by pushing my vocal range to its limits. Everyone sounds like Michael Jackson with the right autotune and vocal preset, so why not take advantage of it. Working in music means that what’s hot now won’t be hot forever so it’s important to stay current and ever changing with YOUR sound. That doesn’t always mean the sound that’s popular at the time, it means stay true to your current and ever changing life so that your sound stays authentic and true to you. I believe that’s what really resonates with people the most. I feel like I set myself apart from other artist by just being myself, there’s only one Astro Da Goat in the entire world, and no can ever take that away from me, the minute I change that, is the minute I stop being Astro Da Goat. My advice to artist looking for direction is to look within yourself, you’ll know what you like once you find out what works for you. I’m proud of the head space and mentality I have towards my career more than anything. I was very self conscious about my sound and didn’t always start off as confidently as I am today. Yes that’s a common phase in becoming an artist, but most people don’t make it past this phase, they either give up, make excuses or crumble under the pressure. I feel like I’m ready mentally for whatever outcome this journey has for me, why? It’s because this is my passion, what I love to do, and what I want my legacy to be on this earth.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I started off being really shy and reserved, unaware of how to navigate life and social settings. Overtime I grew into my personality of being a more humorous, chill person. I learned to value and nurture the relationships I have with the people around me. This value of relationships is what keeps me abreast to being a morally upstanding person and good friend to those people. I feel like I’m still growing honestly, and I still have a lot to learn, but I’m satisfied with the knowledge I have in myself, how aware I’ve become of who I really am. A lot people die before they ever get meet their true selves so it is truly a blessing to say that confidently.
