Check Out Astrid Williams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Astrid Williams. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Dr. Astrid Williams has an extensive background in public health. She believes all women should have access to safe and quality healthcare to support their health and well-being. Unfortunately, Black women carry a higher load for exposure to toxins and unequally affected by chronic diseases.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I decided early in my career, I wanted to do something that had a greater impact. During my academic studies I discovered public health. I loved it so much I went on to achieve my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Health Promotion & Education focusing on women’s health. I want to be a model for others to inspire women to take care of themselves; to achieve their goals—mind body and soul. Often as women, mothers, leaders we take care of others and forget to check in with ourselves. It’s so important that we don’t forget to take of our bodies and mental wellness. Self care is not selfish, it’s essential.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My specific interests include health and wellness with a particular focus on women’s health, advocacy and empowerment. I love to read and listen to a good podcast. I’m all about self-development and anything that helps to uplift and advance women of color.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I’d love to share with those that are starting their professional career or looking to make a change in their field of choice, to genuinely love what you do. Choose a career that you are passionate about, excites you and provides meaningful opportunities to serve others and make an impact. When you genuinely love what you do it shows and you be won’t regret your choice. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You can begin again, and again and start over as many times as needed. Follow your passions.
