Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Gordon
Hi Ash, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m just a Long Island girl, raised right by my grandparents—the real heroes of my story. They taught me that being a good person is the ultimate flex, and that lesson has carried me through every plot twist life’s thrown my way. No matter the challenge, doing right by people has been my North Star. The only thing that’s changed? The level I play at. Goodness and compassion always wins. That’s the real power move.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced is how I started my career making music that makes money—a little thing called “sync” in the music industry. And spoiler alert: I crushed it.
The real struggle here? My peers didn’t respect it.
I cracked the code and turned it into a science. I even created my own band, The Blah Blah Blahs—a modern mod fever dream of hooky guitars, clever chord progressions, and vocal production that hit different. Oh, and because I’m extra, I crafted a drag persona for myself to elevate the whole vibe with pro photos, music videos, and a legit online presence. It looked stunning. It sounded stunning. Brands like Burt’s Bees, Doritos, and Revlon? They noticed.
I built something I was proud of, poured every ounce of creativity into it, and succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. But to my fellow music makers and A&r’s, I was still just a sync writer. Like I didn’t have the chops for album cuts or couldn’t hang in their world (but they were happy to hang in mine when they needed money). Funny how the people who doubt you always think they’re being subtle.
Now that I have an award-winning musical running Off-Broadway and regularly collaborate with iconic drag artists, those same people suddenly sing a different tune. My success rewrote their narrative — and it’s about time they caught up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Lately, I’ve added a lot of titles to my name—playwright, producer, composer—but at my core, I’m a songwriter who says yes to any form of artistic expression.
My laser-focus specialty? Topline writing—the lyrics and melody that bring a song to life. I’m obsessed with playing with words, twisting concepts, and finding fresh ways to say what’s never been said before.
But what truly sets me apart isn’t what I do—it’s who I do it for. I was put on this earth to write with drag queens and queer artists, crafting music that amplifies their stories and celebrates their magic. I’ve had the honor of writing with legends like Alaska, Katya, Trixie Mattel, Trinity The Tuck, Boulet Brothers, and so many others.
I’ve been in the game writing for queens for 15 years—yep, before everyone started tuning into Drag Race. I’m proud of my work and will continue to be a conduit for expressing their stunning inner worlds.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Take no shit. Suffer no fools.
