Today we’d like to introduce you to AQ.
Hi AQ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making music when I was in high school with a good friend of mine Madjik Tha Soulrebel…I wasn’t taking it serious until after college I got a call from Pusha T. He really liked what I was doing and we were able to link up. Business didn’t work out but I was able to get a distro deal from that whole situation and thats why I moved out to LA to pursue this music thing full-time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about being in the music industry is smooth…unless ur dad is a famous record exec then you gotta go thru the whole process of being an artist, which is being patient and hopeful. I feel like the biggest struggle that people have with pursuing music is the process of patience and evolution you must mentally endure… you really gotta love it… Find people that you love to work with that believe in you and it will all work out….I think.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been through a lot of business and personal shit in the past couple of years. Music has really been my only escape and continuing to push is something that I’m proud of. My most recent project “PREESH” is my biggest achievement so far, I put three years into that project and it personifies who I am. What sets me apart is authenticity, everyone wants to sound like the next one for a quick buck… I’m in this to change music…even if it does take a minute for people to wake up and stop sleeping on me.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
LA is dope man. I feel like a lot of people out here aren’t from here and in a way that’s comforting. You leave your friends, family, and city to come to LA to make it… a lot of people out here wanna make it which is beautiful. People say “LA is so fake”, which in some cases is true, but those people are choosing to surround themselves with those types of people. I’ve met some of the most genuine hardworking people in LA since I moved here. I love the hunger and work ethic that people have out here.
I hate the traffic…
