Today, we’d like to introduce you to Angela White.
Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Angela White, a film and television producer based in Los Angeles, California. Originally from Teaneck, New Jersey, I was always passionate about the entertainment industry. While at the University of Delaware, I worked with the student body to book talents such as motivational speakers, singers, comedians, and famous actors, which solidified my desire to pursue an entertainment career.
After nine years of rigorous study, earning a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and a Juris Doctorate, I began representing comedians post-law school. This experience ignited my enthusiasm for the entertainment industry. I started producing comedy and musical shows in New York City while working as an attorney and talent manager. Eventually, I moved to Los Angeles, where I was introduced to producing.
Mentored by industry professionals, I initially produced short films and gradually progressed to feature films. Despite not attending film school, I have produced over forty feature films and six TV series, proving that hard work and dedication can make any dream attainable.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to becoming a successful film and television producer has not always been smooth, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Like many in the entertainment industry, I have faced numerous challenges and obstacles, and the road is still not easy.
One of the significant struggles was breaking into the industry without attending film school; I didn’t know many people in my field. I had to learn everything through hands-on experience and mentorship, which often meant long hours and a steep learning curve. Also, I didn’t have the necessary finances to achieve some of my desires within the industry without resources and help. This process took time to understand and learn.
Ensure you have a good nest egg when pursuing a career in entertainment. Additionally, balancing my roles as an attorney and talent manager while trying to establish myself as a producer was demanding and stressful. Sometimes, projects didn’t go as planned, and I faced setbacks that tested my resolve.
However, these challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of perseverance. Each struggle was a valuable lesson that contributed to my growth and success in the industry. I encourage anyone to keep pushing even when the road is not easy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in producing films and TV shows. I am a known film and television producer based in Los Angeles, specializing in bringing diverse and compelling stories to life on screen. With over forty feature films and six TV series to my credit, I have worked on a wide range of projects, from comedies, thrillers, horror, and faith-based to dramas, ensuring that each production resonates with its audience.
What sets me apart from others in the industry is that I built my career brick by brick without the financial resources or the formal training from attending film school. I learned the ropes through trial and error, mentored by industry professionals, and through sheer determination and hard work. If one door closes, I find an alternative way to open it.
Despite these challenges, I am most proud of my ability to navigate and succeed in such a competitive industry. My journey has been marked by resilience and an unwavering commitment to my craft. This unique path has honed my skills and given me a deep appreciation for every aspect of the production process. My story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, regardless of obstacles.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor or networking, in general, is to immerse yourself in environments where industry professionals gather. Attending film festivals is the number one way to meet people in my industry. Additionally, go to seminars, workshops, and places where specialists in your field congregate.
Mentorship is crucial and necessary in any field to succeed. There is no reason for you to learn the hard way when many people are willing to teach you and show you a path that can make your road smoother. Building relationships and learning from experienced professionals can significantly enhance your journey and open doors to opportunities you might not have encountered otherwise.
