Check Out Alonso Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonso Garcia.

Hi Alonso, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Peruvian industrial engineer that always wanted to be an actor. I don’t come from a family with a huge artist background (with the exception of one of my grandfathers, who was a poet, but unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to share with him), so I couldn’t say that arts where really present in my early years. However, I always felt a kind of connection to music and above all, acting.

When I graduated from high school, I would have loved to start training and studying acting at that very moment, but since I didn’t know what to do nor I didn’t know what places or institutions I could have gone to study (we are talking about 2006 here, and Google was not a solid option to look for information yet), I ended studying Industrial engineering. Might sound weird, but must admit I had quite a decent level with math and science courses back then.

After this, I graduated. Got a degree and started to work in some companies. And it wasn’t until 2017, after a kind of a personal crisis while thinking about my future, when I could finally start to do what I always wanted to. Quitted my job and went through two years of training for theater and stage. At some point started to work professionally as an actor in Perú. And in 2021, after covid started to slowly fade away, along with Ximena (my girlfriend who is also an actress) took the decision to come here to L.A.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. I was already 27 when I practically reseted my life. To leave behind almost everything I had achieved until that moment to start over in a completely different job was definitely the most important decision so far in my life. My job and my career were already paying off. I could say the path of my life was already drawn and heading somewhere. But I didn’t like what I saw. Didn’t like that possible future. So, I went for the change. However, I cannot say that my age and the things the come with it were not scary sometimes. I remember the look in my parent’s faces when the knew about what I was doing. The concern of some of my friends too, that even when they didn’t say it, I could also see it in their eyes while hearing my decision. And obviously, all that puts pressure onto anyone. Most people live with the idea that there are milestones that you “have to” achieve at certain points in your life. That you have to be aligned to those criteria, otherwise you are not being “successful”. But what they do not understand is that we all go on in our own rhythm and speed, but even more important is that there isn’t a unique definition of success to everybody.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been acting professionally since 2018 in Perú. And even though I’ve come to love theater, and I really miss performing in stage, my dream has always been related to cinema and movies. In Perú the acting training is more stage based and that’s why I’ve come now to L.A. To keep training and acting, but now mostly in front of a camera. I consider myself as a really energetic actor. I believe that while performing, I can really get the attention of the audience. I think that I’ve been getting better through these last years and I’m committed to myself to keep working on my craft as much as I’ll humanly be able to.
