Check Out Ally Brenowitz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Brenowitz.

Hi Ally, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I think I knew I wanted to pursue animation when I realized it was where my interests of art, storytelling, and video production all met each other. I worked tirelessly on my portfolio instead of my high school homework, and eventually it paid off. Cut to me graduating from Kennesaw State University’s brand new (at the time) digital animation program in 2024. I learned so much, and was hopeful that I could find work in Atlanta, as there were animation studios there, after all. However, despite my best efforts, the industry was facing a drought, especially there. I had always dreamed of moving to LA, the heart of my field, but hesitated or made excuses. Once I decided to make the jump, everything shifted.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been easy. From endless job applications to the high cost of living to the time difference between me and my friends & family, I’ve had to make some sacrifices. Despite not getting union, in-person work out here yet, I feel that sense of hope again. It’s not coming out of my ass like it was for the year after graduating; it has a source. I’m so grateful for this chance to talk to people who are in the roles I want to be in, who have worked on things I’ve loved.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professionally, I’m pursuing storyboarding and character/color design work. I’ve worked on the main title sequence of Gladiator 2 and a couple indie animated films. Personally, I teeter between digital and traditional, whatever medium I can get my hands on to best convey whatever I want to get across. I consider myself versatile and multi-faceted in that way.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
For everyone’s sake, I hope things improve, both here and back in Atlanta. From talking to other professionals, lulls are normal but this is the worst one in a while. That being said, I suppose things can only go up from here. And when they do, I’ll be in the right place to see it happen. I’m sure it will be very rewarding and exciting to see my efforts over the years finally pay off.
