Check Out Alexis Wolfe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Wolfe.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Birmingham, AL and spent half of my life being raised in Atlanta. I started writing in elementary school. My writing became competitive in high school. From then on, I began to compete in poetry slams and adopted such a poise with spoken word and poetry. I read a lot growing up, it helped block out things around me. I developed a love for words and storytelling, and I wanted to tell my own stories. Nashville helped me cultivate and perfect my artistry. The Soul Food Poetry Cafe, The PSV Store, and Lipstick Wars are platforms that gave me a chance and sense then I’ve been able to build a fan base and acquire popularity from my art and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is not a mainstream presence for a poet/spoken word artist. Trailblazing a path for a genre that people have an outdated and stereotypical perception of is not easy. I’m an independent artist too, so the struggles of that alone are something grand. I’ve dedicated myself to my craft, so I don’t get to partake in a lot of leisure activities that people my age do. Relationships dismantle, funding can be a struggle, feeling crazy and I’m still in college! I’m not quitting though; I’ve come too far to quit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most known for my creative writing abilities. Writing is my foundation. It just so happens that I can perform, I don’t think people know that. I was in the military, so I have a discipline and strategic process which sets me apart from others. I’m finishing up my business degree which helps me understand legalities of the industry. People hear me perform and decide they love poetry. There is just something about me that people love. When I’m not performing, I talk in regular conversation very smooth. Wolfe the charmer. Hahaha. The military and the way I perform sets me apart. I make real impact I’m most proud of that it’s crazy.

I’m also creating legacy by stepping out of the box. I curate artistic photos, write books, songs, and movie scripts. I have events for women to help them move past sexual trauma and heal. That’s what sets me apart my work doesn’t end on stage.

What matters most to you? Why?
Impact. Being able to affect something positively by getting involved. Positive impact purges negativity. I think people are in need of something real to believe in, people are waiting for someone to come along and spark them so that they can become. People want to feel. It matters to me how I can provide that through my art.
