Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Ramirez.
Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated from San Jose State University in 2016 with a degree in Sociology, initially planning to join law enforcement due to my interest in criminology. But like many fresh grads, I took the first job opportunity that came my way, which led me to the Bay Area during the tech boom. I spent several years navigating contract roles, feeling uncertain about my direction, and eventually decided to move back home to Los Angeles for a fresh start.
Back in LA, I landed a role at a startup in talent acquisition. Around that time, I picked up photography as a hobby—starting with a Nikon D3500—and quickly fell in love with it. What started as casual shooting turned into a deep passion, eventually leading me to invest in a Sony A7III and begin building a creative community, both online and in person.
Over the years, I expanded my skill set, explored video, and began collaborating with brands. While the creative journey has been exciting, it hasn’t been without challenges—from burnout and self-doubt to a recent job loss. But those experiences pushed me to focus on my physical and mental well-being, including a 40-pound weight loss that taught me the power of discipline.
Today, I’m continuing to grow as a creative—both behind the camera and beyond it—and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Like many creatives, I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome—constantly feeling like I’m not good enough or that I don’t belong in certain spaces. Self-doubt has been a recurring challenge, especially in moments when things didn’t go as planned or when comparing my journey to others. There were times I questioned my work, my direction, and even my worth. But each setback taught me something valuable and helped me build resilience. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve learned to quiet that inner critic and keep pushing forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally, I work full-time as a recruiter in the tech industry, having worked with both large corporations and small startups. While I enjoy what I do, my long-term goal is to transition into content creation full-time.
Creatively, I specialize in landscape and travel photography, with a strong focus on capturing the essence of Los Angeles. I’m known for showcasing the beauty of LA through my photos and videos, but I also take pride in exploring and highlighting the incredible landscapes beyond the city. There’s so much more to California—and the world—than people realize, and I love bringing that to life through my work.
One of my proudest accomplishments has been the opportunity to collaborate with respected brands like Tamron and PolarPro. It’s rewarding to see my work recognized in that way. What I believe sets me apart is my ability to strike a balance between the energy of urban photography and the serenity of landscapes—bridging both worlds through a creative lens.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to believe in yourself—imposter syndrome is very real in the creative space, and it can hold you back if you let it. Create art for yourself, not just for an audience. When you focus too much on pleasing others, you lose sight of your own voice and purpose. Stay true to what excites and inspires you, and the right audience will naturally follow.
I also wish I had known not to get caught up in the numbers—likes, views, and follows can easily distract you from your vision. Growth takes time, and consistency matters more than overnight success. Focus on improving your craft, enjoying the process, and staying grounded in your “why.”
