Check Out Nadia Williamson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Williamson.

Hi Nadia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my career as a freelance costume designer in the Film and Television industry. At the age of 19, I started as a costume buyer on a film set. After years of buying and working other positions in the wardrobe department I finally became a costume designer. I have dressed and worked side by side such notable stars as Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, Jeff Bridges, Jamie Fox, Maria Bello, Rufus Sewell as well as Kim Coates and Amy Matysio to name a few.

In my late twenties, I dove deeper into the world of fashion, took a break from Film and TV and graduated with a diploma in Fashion Design from Montreal’s Le Salle College. After graduating, I moved back to my birth place Saskatchewan and opened my first bridal shop NWL Bridal. 17 years later after helping thousands of brides I met my own husband in West Hollywood (at a bar). I moved to Los Angeles and opened my second bridal shop NWLA Bridal in Santa Monica on Monanta Ave. Now it feels like I’m working in the film industry all over again.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a struggle moving to a new country, starting from scratch and meeting everyone in the bridal industry here. From event planners to Florest’s, it’s all new. Yet the community here, is giving and strong, it hasn’t taken long. Even during Covid with all the postponed weddings brides are still ordering their dream dress.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
“I’m most proud of the designers I carry. I carry couture gowns that are classy and stylish.

Lihi Hod and Berta are hand made in Israel, they are made to measure gowns. I also carry Paloma Blanca made and designed in Canada, the bodices are hand sewn with beautiful lace detail. They are Exquisite designers and excellent companies. Lastly, I just started carrying Mira Zwillinger and Reem Acra.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for starting out is to be patience. Perseverance is key. It takes time to understand your community and for people to know you and trust you.
