Today we’d like to introduce you to MM of MM Fabrications.
MM, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As long as I remember I’ve always been darkly inclined. I spent most of my younger years in the high desert heavily outcasted and working hard to try to create my own future. As a teen, I was forced to attend catholic school for a short period of time, where I was abused. That dichotomy of darkness in the helm of light is what now feeds my endless inspiration. During that period of time, I became obsessed with religion itself and how we as a society idolize spiritual deities. The imagery and blood-soaked roots of catholicism always fueled my desire to learn all I could of religious history. From there, I went on to become a special effects makeup artist where I worked from the ground up in FX shops to develop my creative skills and knowledge of specialty fabrication. In 2015 while still working in various shops, I began to save up what I could and started making all of the things I saw in my mind. It started with a few masks and headdresses and then exploded into full high fashion occult luxury wear. I always wanted to work in music, so thats primarily where I started to market my creations. Getting to fuze my style of raw, deathly, creation with metal’s most brutal is where I find the most joy. My style developed over the years into the raw and regal pieces you see now. Which brings me here to the present where I sit in my death laden crimson apartment creating handmade occult luxury wear daily with my beloved albino Pit/boxer The IMMORTAL pup.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As an artist, I have become known for my occult luxury wear. Every piece of wearable art I create is 100% handmade and tailored to each individual client. From my background as an FX artist, I brought cinematic quality and my knowledge of specialty fabrication and infused it with my never-ending obsession to create a physical representation of absolute darkness. I create because I am possessed by my vision and can only satisfy my mind by making the things I see in my head. I am constantly inspired by history, death, blood, pain, sorrow, human experience, religion, nature, and SO much more. This world of ours is filled to the brim with inspiration, but as a person, I tend to find it lurking in the abyss. The looks I create aren’t just fashion. What comes from my hands is a form of ritual in itself. I paint with my own blood, work with human bone, animal flesh, and more to bring forth the beauty of our own mortality. After all, the only part of this human experience we all can collectively share is death.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
There are many challenges facing artists today mostly generated by the blessing and curse that is internet culture. While the internet serves as an amazing tool to market your work and make connections, it also serves as a place where the value of art has been driven into the ground due to mass production and the accessibility of fast and cheap alternatives. It is so important to support original artists and to keep the world of fine goods thriving. Small businesses are the heart of ingenuity and keep the level of quality and uniqueness in the world raised. A life without original art would be incredibly depressing.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
