Meet Miss Fay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miss Fay.

Miss Fay, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in South Central LA, but the only place that feels like “home” is on stage. As a kid I was painfully shy; but music became a safe space for me to build confidence and express myself. I created the altar ego “Miss Fay” as a form of escapism from my insecurities; allowing my stage presence to be far more bold and elegant than I am on a normal day.

Through the glory of God, blind faith and hard work, I’ve been able to share my gift internationally and release music independently.

We’d love to hear more about your music. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Inspired by the work of rebellious women like Nina Simone, Ella FitzGerald, and Amy Winehouse, my music is centered on vivid storytelling. Telling the truth of a narrative is far more valuable to me than sounding “perfect.” Sonically, I gravitate toward boom-bap, jazz, and classic soul records. Thematically, I pull from personal stories about sexuality, insecurity and evolution. My intention is to empower artists of color to create their own versions of success, instead of waiting for permission or validation.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I spent years distracting myself from the REAL work. My approach to the industry didn’t change until I took the time to understand who I am, why I’m here and how I want to help others. I started seeing myself as a entrepreneur with a unique product as opposed to a “starving artist.” Currently, I’m studying the business and improving my discipline so I can better handle the reality of life as a full-time artist.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’m polishing up new music, a podcast, and a revamp of my youtube channel. Stay tuned!
