Check Out Mikey Amaré’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Amaré.

Hi Mikey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born in Ethiopia, raised in Los Angeles. I was always into poetry in school and was fascinated by the rhyme scheme of the poems but I got into music rap music specifically when my brother had a Snoop Dogg cassette (This was in Ethiopia) and he played it in the living room, I was so amazed by it that I used to play it all the way through on a daily basis. I started dabbling with music in high school as a producer just as a hobby but around 2012, I released a collaboration tape with some friends and also a solo tape. Around 2016 I started taking music seriously and I officially released my first official Mixtape “My Last Year Broke” which is available on all platforms.

Later in 2018, I released an EP titled “The other side of the Fence”. The lead single from the Ep was placed in a movie titled “The Florida Project”. That helped me take it to the next level as far as streams and earning money as an artist making music. Following that, I’ve been releasing multiple singles with visuals as part of my weekly releases, I call them Fob Friday’s. I also released a joint EP with my friend Belaiire titled “unstoppable” on November 2020. Along with that I’m planning to release a nine-track EP titled “You’re either a fool or a Genius” this February.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! It’s a challenge being an artist. I was fortunate enough to have the support system from family and friends that help me shoot videos when I need videos for a song. My brother became an incredible shooter after I bugged him to just pick up the camera. But aside from that recording was an issue because when you book studios to book people want to fine you for studio hours and money. I personally record in my car and mix and master it right after in the car. I used to hate it when I couldn’t afford a place to record at, I did it out of desperation but eventually ended up loving the process because I can be free and the fact that I’m by myself and try different things. Now that I can afford studios, I don’t even record there I still do the car thing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My most proudest moment is when one of my songs were placed in a movie and seeing my name at the end on credits. This was all without no label support straight independent. The producers reached out to me on Facebook, I don’t even use Facebook but something told me to check my messages that day. I represent the Fob Records (fresh off the boat). Here is the US there’s a negative connotation to the word fob. I didn’t take no boat, I took a plane here but when I see the movie scarface I see me thats me, not on some let me come to Miami and be a big-time cartel but coming from somewhere and becoming a boss and thats what Fob records do, thats what we represent, at the end of the day we all took a boat. Thats what separates me from others.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Patience! Everything takes time, Don’t Rush, nowadays everything is moving fast-paced so we all feel the need to rush everything but I finally figured out to cruise and master my craft. Everything will come if you do the job but it takes patience.
