Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxine Garcia, Beto Brakmo, and Chase Cook.
Maxine, Beto, and Chase, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
All three of us went to the same high school and liked the same music. Chase and Beto have played in different bands together since they were 15. Maxine had never been in a band before but had studied and played music for years, and we all formed Fime when she moved to Los Angeles in 2016!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Fime’s music is made as a reflective creation of our own separate insecurities, fears, and anecdotes. The spirit of all our art is very much DIY: we all love playing with multimedia and make our own music videos, cover art, and take our own film photographs. We truly believe in a combined effort even outside of the main members, and working with like-minded artists, we respect for a shared creative experience.
Our art is a venue for expression and evolving new concepts and ideas with the hopes that people feel as connected to it as we do.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Without a doubt, one of the most important parts of being an artist is showing up and supporting other artists. Go to their shows, buy their merch, stream their music, introduce them to your friends, just show your face and become a part of your community and you will find connections. Any artist knows the amazing feeling of looking up into a crowd and seeing familiar faces. Supporting an artist through their art directly is the most meaningful way you can connect with anyone.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
We play local shows in Los Angeles, posting updates on our Instagram (@fimeband). You can listen to our music for free on Spotify, watch our music videos on YouTube and buy our merch and physical releases on Bandcamp (fime.bandcamp.com).
