Check out Madeleine Lucas Sik Sik Sicks’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeleine Lucas Sik Sik Sicks.

Madeleine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always played guitar and formed bands when I was little. I became obsessed with the way pop music got stuck in people’s heads and how polished it was, and I wrote and recorded my first single when I was 12. By 9th grade, I started a band called Sick of Sarahs and I ended up changing the name to Sik Sik Sicks. We’ve dropped and added a ton of members so the only original member is me, but it’s a whole lot better.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve always been a loner and I tend to get depressed so there is a lot of time for me to create. It also helps my emotional state. I created Sik Sik Sicks to touch on things that were affecting me and the world around me. Breakups, broken friendships, bullying, etc. Although my songs may come across as mean, they’re really just a way for me to call out bullies and people screwing me over. I’m just sick and tired of people treating others like shit. Sik Sik Sicks just goes against the grain and wants to do the complete opposite of what everybody else is doing. I hope I inspire people to stick up for themselves (and others) and be proud of who they are. Just because somebody else thinks something is cool doesn’t mean it is. In fact, most of the time it isn’t. sick of the soapboxes, sick of all this PC bullshit. WE’RE REDEFINING RIOT, GRRRL.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Go against the grain. Be an original. Most importantly, own it.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
We have our first single on all music platforms called OBP. We’re releasing our first EP December 14 called Homecoming Whore with our release party at Rock City Studios with the Aquadolls. Come to our shows! Buy merchandise! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SCENE.
