Check Out Jason Vargas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Vargas.

Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins in April of 2019 when I finally had enough of my daily routine. At the time, I was working as a cook at a teriyaki restaurant. A few of my peers were very toxic because all they did was work in the kitchen 12 hours a day, six days a week. When I would express my passion for creating music videos and wanting to turn my passion into a full-time career, they would laugh. They would make comments like, “You really think people are going to pay you for music videos enough to be a full-time career?” as they would giggle. However, a few of my coworkers would encourage me to just go for it instead of continuously talking about it. One evening after my shift ended, I decided to quit. I did not say a word about my thoughts, and I had left and never looked back. I’ve now successfully been a full-time creative for two years making music videos all over the United States. It wasn’t easy at first. I’d have months where I’d make 0$, but I always look at everything long-term vs. what’s happening right now. Growing up as a skateboarder, you learn that you must attempt that trick hundreds of times to land it successfully. You may fall, break a bone, etc., but you keep trying. Eventually, you get it. I’ve had this same mindset about everything I have encountered in life. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE THROUGH HARD WORK AND DEDICATION.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road has many bumps, as we all do. However, I believe the hardship that we come across makes us appreciate our journey even more! At first, transitioning from a regular 9-5 job to a full-time freelance videographer was difficult. When you work a 9-5 job, you constantly have a schedule and a boss that tells you when you need to work. As a creative, you have no agenda. There is no boss on your back telling you what to do anymore. This is where it becomes a” make or break” for full-time creatives because if you’re not passionate, it can be overwhelming. A person producing content constantly has the itch to create 24/7. If that passion does not become a lifestyle, then being a full-time creative may not be for you. Many people think that when you are your boss, you work less when in reality, you work a lot more than you did at that 9-5 job. At first, keeping myself busy was difficult. Over a few months, I gained a nice routine and kicked all the extra bs out of my life, such as video games, clubs, parties, etc. I had dedicated my life to filmmaking. If I wasn’t learning something new on an editing program, I was touching up my website, socials, etc. All these little things that may not seem important at the time became essential now. I believe keeping yourself busy with your craft 24/7 helps manifest quicker. Even though it may consume your life, sooner or later, mountains start moving, and your wildest dreams come true. The Law of attraction is very real.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music video director, editor, and visual effects artist. I create music videos all over California/United States. I specialize in VFX work and creating augmented realities that are futuristic. What sets me apart from the crowd is my obsession with getting my work done and back to my clients as soon as possible—yet still delivering quality sequences that bring the song to life.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck in this certain field, everything is through hard work and dedication.
