Check out the Earl Grey Tea Pie at The Pie Hole Los Angeles in Arts District, Hollywood, Pasadena, Glendale, Old Towne Orange

RestaurantInterviews

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arts District, Hollywood, Pasadena, Glendale, Old Towne Orange’s The Pie Hole Los Angeles.

How did you end up in the restaurant business?
The Pie Hole is a family run organization hatched out of the dreams of a mother and son, Becky Grasley and Matthew Heffner, who long dreamed of opening a place where they could share their love of pie. Along with family friend Sean Brennan, and Matty’s wife Lindsay Hollister, they all set out to bring back the All American Pie Shop.

The Pie Hole uses recipes passed down in the family for five generations along with more modern inventions like our Earl Grey Tea Pie! Combined together with an Aussie inspired savory pie selection, and a signature speciality coffee program, The Pie Hole strives to be the ultimate destination for comfort food and a perfect cup of coffee. Infusing Becky’s motto of “Pie Is Love”, along with the idea that we serve “Happiness, One Slice At A Time”, The Pie Hole is not just about incredible pie and coffee, it’s also an experience. Your local pie shop, community gathering space, your home away from home. We hold the customer experience to the highest of standards, and work hard to create a culture of respect for our customers, and our staff.

We’d love to learn more about the struggles you’ve had along the way.
Our growth has been the greatest challenge. We chose to grow quickly and opened 7 shops in 6 years! It takes a tremendous amount of work to open new shops all while maintaining the current ones. We focus on consistency and always strive to have the best pie and coffee around. Managing staff is a huge challenge. We have worked hard on our training program, and a lot goes into it. We know if you do not have a happy, well trained staff, then our customers will suffer as a result.

Tell us something interesting or unique about The Pie Hole Los Angeles.
We feel like no one is doing sweet and savory pies like us. We make everything from scratch, by hand, using only the finest ingredients. We have created original flavors, like our Earl Grey Tea Pie, Mexican Chocolate, Cereal Killer Cheesecake, and our savory pies, like Mac ‘n Cheese Pot Pie and Fried Chicken ‘n Waffles Pot Pie, can’t be found like we do it. And pie is awesome for every meal! We have popular breakfast hand pies like Chorizo Cheddar Cheese and Egg and Bacon Hash with egg. Our coffee is signature to us as well as we serve our own blend of specialty coffee – we were one of the first coffee shops in LA to do Nitro Cold Brew on tap. We want to be unique and offer selections you can’t find anywhere else.
