Check out Dillon Eaves’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillon Eaves.

Dillon, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a Los Angeles native who has been tattooing for 8 years. I began my career at Broken Art Tattoo under my mentor Jeremy Swan. Since then I’ve been officially licensed by Lucas Film, appeared on television, had my art used in advertisements, and traveled the world making custom tattoos. My work emphasizes on natural elements with a twist of fantasy and the macabre to them. I like combining crisp bold line work with intricate details and strong shading. I work in many styles of tattooing ranging from black and grey, neo-traditional, traditional, blackwork, portrait work, pointillism, geometric, abstract and more. I created Charnel House Tattoo as a means to further push my artistic limits and create an exclusively comfortable environment for my clientele. This is a sacred space for an ancient and honored tradition.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a tattoo artist and painter. I work in many mediums, but always return to pen and liquid acrylics when I paint. I find inspirations in lots of things; traveling, botany, animals, geometry, social interactions, my girlfriend (who is also an incredibly talented artist) but recently it’s mostly been pop culture. As far as my tattooing goes it’s really whatever my client wants subject matter wise, I just try and interpret their ideas into my own style. I like to break things down into shapes, pick out minute details, use heavy contrasting colors, and strong shading to create my designs. It’s always evolving and that’s what I always love about it. Tattoos I do as little as a year ago look drastically different from what I’m producing now, yet they always “look” like I’ve done them. I just always want people to be able to pick out my work from everything else out there.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I feel like the role of artists has always been the same to change how people look at things. Whether it’s a political statement, environmental advocacy, highlighting an overlooked issue, or straight up just voicing their opinion. It’s the job of an artists to express themselves and to make other people feel for one moment what they felt when they created it. My art in particular is very interesting because it isn’t affected by local, national, or international events, however my clients (whom I create my art for) are. So, depending on what’s happening in the world the mood or tone of our conversations while I work on them can change. However, I always try and keep things positive no matter what.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The best way for people to have look at my work would be on Instagram: @dilloneaves or @charnelhousetattoo as well as my shop’s website: www.charnelhousetattoo.com. I’m always showcasing artwork at different venues, but I’m constantly a part of The Mystic Museum’s Gallery in Burbank, CA. I try to keep my social media updated with where I’ll be tattooing throughout the year and art shows I’ll be a part of.
