Check out Darryl Sharp’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Sharp.

Darryl, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Got introduced to graphic design in high school but pursued interior design in college. Fell back in love with graphic design in college by helping with flyer designs for clubs and organizations and discovered I could make a living doing it through advertising. Along the way, because of my love for music and album art, started experimenting with animating album covers and got somewhat of a following from it thanks to social media. Through this journey, I moved from the DC area to Los Angeles thanks to connections that I made through advertising programs and the rich creative opportunities in Los Angeles.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create animated album art. They are a mix of motion aspects from the original album cover as well as abstract interpretations and themes I picked up from listening to the album. It started as a way of bringing to motion specific albums that I saw as a screenshot to an even larger movie that the album represented. I first experimented with this idea with Tyler the Creator’s “Flower Boy” album. With this digital media that I share online, I hope that I can push people to listen to these artists’ music and perhaps even understand the story I’m trying to tell through my own personal visual interpretations of the artists’ music.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Be more sincere and less opportunistic when reaching out. Show genuine appreciation for one’s work and find natural ways to relate. Make sure that any potential collaborations are mutually beneficial. Just as much as you see talent in others for your aspirations, see how you can help them in their journey as well. Issa Rae described it best the idea of “working across versus up.” Share how they’ve inspired you with their work.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
