Check out Colette Miller’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Miller.

Colette, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in a big family that moved a lot. My mom is technically a war refugee from Indonesia and Holland. The Dutch east indies – she left after WW2- they lost everything u set the Japanese occupation- she immigrated to NYC and while on vacation. She met my dad while he was studying philosophy and Buddhism at the University of Hawaii.

We built our own house my dad designed when we were teenagers in Virginia- it’s passive solar – that’s pretty hard living in a half built house going to high school but it made me durable for the world I guess.. My family encouraged and loved art my mom set me up with an easel at age 3 or 4. I’ve traveled and lived a lot of places on my own- including Tibet South Africa and the Middle East.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve worked in painting film editing camera poetry music – formative years of GWAR- I played Amazina-GWAR girl — and wrote sang for Dayglo aborigines while in South Africa and NYC/ I did a concert based on the chakras – lighting to stage in the corresponding colors for each song/chakra.

I went to art school in Richmond VA VCU and I created the GlobalAngelWingsProject in 2012 streets of LA. I had a vision of huge angel wings everywhere. Placed on the big walls around the city-To remind humanity of our divine self- to remind humanity we are the angels of this earth. They are interactive public art.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
The world can be lonely – if you are a little eccentric or see the world a little different it’s going to be. I just say stay authentic.

But loneliness is not only the artist’s path-Maybe loneliness in society in the USA started with the suburbs and the isolation from the original village of yore. Often we are treated as numbers, not souls. We are all souls. Souls first- everything else second.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have the wings all over the world. Asia, East Asia, Europe, Cuba, Kenya, Australia, United States, soon the Middle East. And a few here in LA where I started.

My other work has been sold in many places too.
