Hi Ahnaise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for having me! I’m originally from Los Angeles, Ca and I was raised by my Grandmother. I’ve been involved in many different industries from the dental field to the restaurant business as well as acting and modeling. I’m somewhat of a jack of all trades.
I started Just Be Sweet Cakes towards the end of my third pregnancy back in 2018. I was up every night with insomnia so I filled my time watching Cake Wars and Nailed it. I kept thinking to myself, “I can do that!” Lol. So I tried and I succeeded, well kind of. Of course, my first few attempts weren’t show stoppers but I kept at it and now three years later, my business is consistently growing. I’m enjoying every minute of this cake journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that my biggest challenge is the fact that I am a mother of three young children. So sometimes, it is hard to fit in “caking” along with motherhood. I spent many a night up until two or even three in the morning preparing buttercream or making fondant decorations for an order.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self-taught home baker. I’m best known for my strawberry crunch cake as well as having some of the most moist and flavorful Cakes around. I’m most proud of the fact that I did it on my own and I did it my way. Having a lot on my plate already but still being able to achieve another one of my goals it’s a great feeling.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I found myself following other cake artists on Instagram. Reaching out to a few and asking questions. Sometimes I was met with resistance but mostly, I gained a lot of help.
