Today we’d like to introduce you to Yaara Bar.
Yaara, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Since I can remember myself, I was always fascinated with fantasy stories, having my head in the clouds and daydreaming. My imagination took me to thrilling and wild adventures. Soon, my hand became the extension of head, and I began realizing my fictional world in every available medium of art.
As an Israeli, I was recruited to the Department of Video and Graphics in the Israeli Defense Force. That’s where I started to dive deep into design but above all, I gained maturity, independence and resilience. After my service, I majored in Visual Communication at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. This experience gave me a profound understanding of the power of visual communication and its ability to tell a story, convey a message, and emotionally move an audience.
Since graduating from Bezalel, I searched for impactful mediums that would offer an exciting experience to a larger audience, I was always moved by music, performance and immersive experiences and eventually chose to embark on a M.F.A in Projections Design from Yale School of Drama program in order to expand my horizons.
Following my graduation, I took part in incredible projects in performance design and installation. One of my favorites was the Metallica S&M show!
My new passion for Djing is leading me to create more Dj/Vj experiences, where people can submerge in a sensuous-spiritual experience.
Can you give our readers some background on your work?
Through the years, I’ve had many titles-Projection designer, Graphic designer, Motion-graphic designer, Creative director, Editor, Events designer, DJ and VJ.
I gained a lot of experience in these visual skills but I’m not a fan of boxes. My art always comes from impulses and inspirations. Therefore, I’m always open for evolvement.
My main reason for creating art is to emotionally move people. I aim to create projects that are experienced viscerally and not necessarily intellectually. Through these experiences, I wish that the participants will feel connected to their soul and to each other.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
If you have a big dream, you need a big team. As an artist that used to work alone, I found immense pleasure in working with a big team and collaborating. Everyone contributes to the success of the project and it feels ten times more rewarding. So my advice would be- work in teams (with good people!- that’s very important)
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The best way to experience my work is to see it in person but, the beauty and curse of live events is their short window of time.
