Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Zuko.
Tommy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up moving a lot, mainly on the east coast & the midwest so having to adapt to a new surroundings sort of became normal to me. Something about the music that was either in my headphones or playing in the house-made whatever new place feel a little more like home. I found a love for music at a young age and started writing my own songs at around age six.
By nine years old I was doing shows all around Ohio with a group called the “Lil Tykes” and caught the bug for performing. By the time I was 16 I had moved from Ohio – NC to Kentucky and started recording my own tracks with friends to play at different functions and events. Since then its been a steady grind, developing my brand, experimenting with different sounds & linking up with my day-1 homegrown team to create something special.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create music. I try to create backdrops for scenarios that I’ve experienced & I tend to make music with a visual in mind guiding the flow of the songs and the feelings they represent. I’ve been recording and mixing my own music since I started, and recently I’ve delved deeper into producing the tracks. I make music cause its fun. I like to take what’s going on my head and make a moment out of it.
The message is what you make it, some songs may have a different meaning for me vs whoever’s listening, but if it can impact you in a positive way then I’m stoked. What you should know about my art is that it’s genuine, whether it’s an r&b slow song or an up-tempo braggadocious rap track, just know that I’m representing 100% of who I am and how I’m feeling at the time. Just have fun with it.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I feel like the role of an artist in any field is the people’s chance to escape the bs. We go to clubs to have fun even though we got bills to pay and work sucks. We watch movies to dive into another universe with these characters. The role of an artist can help alleviate the day to day hassles or amplify the awesome, while on the other hand be a voice for those that feel they’re voiceless.
I tend to make mood music. So when there are issues going on whether personal, local, national or international it can affect the mood of the song I’m doing. I may be celebrating, inspired or pissed off but that’s what keeps it pure.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
