Art & Life with Peter Fox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Fox.

Peter, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Grew up in large, middle class family in Wilmette, Illinois. Went to Harvard, majored in anthropology. Graduated and came to California. Two years later was starring in a Paramount movie “Fraternity Row”. (www.imdb.com). Went on to work in movies and TV for the next 20 years. Was artistic director of the Alliance Repertory Theatre in LA for 16 years. Am a published playwright. Taught film direction at UCLA.

Moved to Ojai in 2005 and started making found object art from all the odd things I had collected over the years on location.

Live with my wife and 3 ill-mannered animals.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
There is a lot of free time between gigs or on location for actors. I haunted junk stores, antique malls, etc. to kill the time. Eventually I had all this stuff and one day started putting it together. Most pieces came together with a title that is specific and relevant to the piece, usually humorous. Unfortunately my pictures without the titles miss half the fun.
What you should know about my artwork is that anyone can do this.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The role of the artist is to make art.

Trump is a fool and easy to mock in art which I have done but no longer do because what I’ve made about him won’t change anyone’s mind. And he doesn’t deserve any more of my mental energy. Very little topical art changes people’s minds. It’s mostly cathartic for the artist.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
