Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina De la Paz.
Paulina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m a Fashion passionate. I was raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. Its a city where there isn’t a fashion culture. So at the age of 14, I realized I had to build it on my own. I started working in retail at my aunt’s store, and that is when I realized how much I loved the art of clothing. I didn’t really know what my path was, I started modeling, helping out at runways or beauty events, but there was something missing. I decided I needed to go somewhere else and that’s when I moved to Vancouver. I decided to take a Fashion Merchandising course to see which area of fashion was for me.
While studying, I couldn’t really make a decision on which path I needed to take, being a teenager having all the pressure of my family for studying a degree I turned out an offer to go to New York with W magazine. I mean who would do that? Something I thought I would regret all my life.
I went back home and started a Degree in Marketing, and I started working with a lot of companies until I decided to build my own. And that is when the magic started for me. I built my own Fashion Magazine. I was doing editorials every week, writing articles, going to events and making my own fashion events, being an influencer. I was having so much fun but still..there was something missing again. So I decided I needed to move out, go somewhere, but I had no idea where.
So one day my boyfriend Alain got me an offer to do the wardrobe for some Mexican series in L.A., so I came, and I had one of the most amazing experiences in my life, I felt so in love with the job and with the city that I had to move in. I needed to make a change, Ive finally found Styling and there was nothing missing.
I sold my car, I stopped my magazine, I quit my three jobs and moved to L.A. I started selling vintage dresses at Melrose the Trading Post where I met a lot of creatives that had my same vision, and we started getting together for photo shoots. Eventually, Alain and I decided we also wanted to build our own brand Antenna, and we created the concept of selling vintage and a t-shirt brand based on the 80s.
So here I am following my passion Fashion Styling while growing my own brand Antenna.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a Fashion Stylist.
I really want nothing more than to share my vision through various creative mediums. By being a stylist, being a designer, I can bring to life the world I want to see and share that with others. There are few things more powerful than being able to envision something in your mind and then manifest it in reality, and if what I do gets to be beautiful then so much the better.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Never let money take you down. The most important thing is your art. I know its hard I actually just quit my job because I want to focus on my brand and my styling. But I trust that If I do things with passion and hustle. The money will just be a result of the hard work and love I put into it.
