Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Lora.
Maya, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have loved photography my whole life but it wasn’t till I was in high school that I bought my first high quality camera. I saved up all my babysitting money for months and bought a little canon rebel. I remember doing little photoshoots with my friends to build my portfolio. I found a new passion to photograph love stories when I was hired as a second shooter for a professional wedding photographer in Orange County. I fell in love with photographing the way couples show their love for each other. There’s nothing more special then photographing someone’s wedding or elopement. To capture the love, the joy, the tears and memories they will have forever, there is no better job. Over the years I have evolved into shooting small intimate weddings and elopements because I like the intimacy of a small ceremony surrounded by nature and the closest people in the couple’s lives. I’ve been shooting weddings for three years now and I can’t imagine not having a job where love is the focus and happiness is overflowing.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am an intimate wedding, elopement and engagement photographer. I love to create images for my clients that show their personalities and mean more than just a posed high quality photo. I live to create and photograph love stories because there is no better thing then to serve people in a way they will treasure forever. I photograph emotion and personality by having the couple focus on each other and forget I’m there. I like to give minimal direction and let the session flow more naturally. I love having couples talk to each other, laugh, dance around…etc. to get those natural reactions. I would love for people to take away that love is fun, it’s an adventure and just to be inspired by other couple’s love. Spreading love and inspiring other passionate photographers is the ultimate goal. I would love people to know that I put my heart and soul into my work and don’t think of it as some job to make money. Yes, it is a job but it’s about creating images that couples will share with their family for the rest of their lives.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I think the biggest challenge is when you start to lose sight of why you are creating. It’s easy to get uninspired or compare your work to someone more successful. These are all downfalls that I have seen in the photography industry
