Art & Life with Hamish Robertson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hamish Robertson.

Hamish, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was raised in rural Yorkshire, in the north of England, spent a decade in New York City, and now live in Los Angeles which, in many ways, feels like an odd amalgamation of the two. I’m as drawn to the stark beauty of nature as I am rich details in the urban environment but even more so when the two collide and compete.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I produce predominantly landscape photography in both analog and digital formats and often make digital photo collages using the textures of found objects. I have intense wanderlust and try to present a strong sense of place in my compositions but also strive to present images to a viewer with a sense of quiet and isolation—something I sometimes need to best be able to fully see what’s in front of me.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Originality, perhaps. As much as social networks such as Instagram and Pinterest have shown people far away worlds, new ways of being and doing, and a sort of spaghetti history lesson, it also seems to have fostered a copycat culture that only takes things backward.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I offer prints in varying sizes via my website, http://store.hamishrobertson.com, and have representation via other channels such as TRNK NYC in New York. I have an exhibit of work currently on show in Miami at 4510/SIX and was commissioned to create imagery for the launch of the Forty-Five Ten flagship store in New York City’s new Hudson Yards development.
