Today we’d like to introduce you to Etsegenet Tadesse.
Etsegenet, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where I fall in love with music at an early age. I loved singing and learning new songs; so I was the first one from my friends to memorize and sing new songs and eventually in my classroom; so I was like the coolest kid in my classroom at elementary school 🙂 After graduating from high school, I joined a private music college “Mekane Yesus Seminary” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and studied Guitar performance. After completion, I won a scholarship to come to study music here in the U.S and studied music performance and graduated from the “Los Angeles College Music” in Pasadena, CA. Since then, I have been blessed performing and collaborating with different musicians and artists from all over the world.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I play multiple musical instruments, and I also sing. I play guitar, bass, and a little bit of piano. Nowadays, I play bass on most of my performances with different bands. I also have my original projects which I write, arrange, sing, and play the guitar. If I’m performing my original stuff, It’s usually me singing and playing the guitar with other musicians accompanying me.
I also do music for film and commercials. Really want to get more into that actually. I love imagining, creating, and learning about different styles of music outside of my own.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Very true! The only thing I want to say is trust your art, do not lose your focus, and there is a reason why you’re gifted with the talent you have.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I post my upcoming performance on my social media accounts, including my personal artist website, Instagram, and Facebook. I will have a new EP coming soon very excited to share that. It will be on all the platforms.
