Art & Life with Emily Sparks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sparks.

Emily, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve been photographing the people I love and the places that I visit for as long as I can remember. When my family relocated from Southern California to the Bay Area, I quit my corporate job of ten years and decided to pursue photography full time. Having been in the service industry for most of my adult life, I wanted to translate my passion into making everyone that I work with feel incredible, both in person and on camera.

Now I spend my days in search of amazing locations for photo shoots and editing the sweet faces that I have the privilege of capturing. I bounce between Northern and Southern California for shoots, but if you ask me to travel somewhere else, there’s about a 99.9% chance I’ll be down/up for it. Oh, and pretty much every penny that I earn is spent traveling the globe or groceries on Amazon.

Bottom line: Rich, vibrant, meaningful images are what I’m after and natural light is what I CRAVE.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I capture humans. I chase the light. I am addicted to candid moments of love. More than anything, after a session, I want people to feel good about themselves.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Being a full-time artist was the hardest and scariest thing that I’ve ever committed to. Being a full-time artist is the most rewarding and amazing thing that I’ve ever been fortunate enough to experience. Take the leap. Own it. I took my corporate sales knowledge and translated it into marketing for my business… and it worked.

Whatever you have in your toolbox, use it. Make it your special piece that will bring people in. I’m still scaling more of what I want to be doing, but I’ve got a clear set of goals, objectives and dreams and I know that with consistent delivery of quality product, I’ll be able to continue to grow.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Support my work by supporting me. Book a session and feel the love.
