Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniella and William Washington.
Daniella and William, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
We met in 2013 and married one year later on the day we met in 2014. By trade, William is a musician, DJ and professor at LMU. At the end of each semester, William’s class performs a gospel concert. During the Spring semester of 2019, we were looking for entertainment options for the pre-concert reception and a photo booth was the most ideal option. After researching options online, Daniella discovered a number of social media posts with DJs that also operated photo booths. She presented the idea to William as an add-on for his DJ business and he liked the idea so much that we started planning immediately how to make it happen. We spent weeks researching options including the best photo booth set-ups, backdrops, props and cameras. When it came time to name the business we put a bunch of different ideas together and polled family and friends to see what they would vote for. We ended up with Hype Booth LA – feeling that the experience and photos we would deliver to our clients would capture the excitement of their events and the guests in attendance. In May of 2019, we filed our paperwork and became an official operation.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We are a photo booth rental company. We provide an open-air photo booth that has a digital touch screen and high-quality professional camera with dual LED strips that surround the entire front and back head unit. The built-in WiFi allows instant sharing of your photos via email and social media. In addition, we have a professional photo printer that delivers high-quality photos with little to no wait time. Prints are delivered in 8 seconds or less. Our open-air booths have no limits and create an interactive environment that can accommodate groups of up to 12 people. We also design custom photo strips for events, tailor our prop set-up to themes and provide elegant backdrops.
We truly sought out to start a photo booth business that would add excitement and fun for events of all sizes. We know it’s always time to have a good time and our true goal is to enhance events with positivity, professionalism, and HYPE! We both have customer service backgrounds and are faithful Christians so ultimately service to others is extremely important to us. We pride ourselves in truly providing excellent service. We want to be able to meet the needs of our clients but also go above and beyond what is expected. We enjoy having the “WOW” moment with clients when we provide everything they have envisioned and more. We understand this experience is not only fun and engaging but helps our clients create lifelong memories that they will cherish forever.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Starting a business can definitely be lonely if you don’t know anyone who’s doing the same thing or taking the entrepreneur route in general. We were fortunate enough to start this venture together and we have each other to bounce ideas off of. The best advice we can offer would be to look up groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, and even Instagram. We’ve connected with a number of different vendors for backdrops, props, and best practices through social media and online research. Other options include attending conferences, trade shows, or other local events. The most important thing to remember is that it’s a learning experience and nothing is going to be perfect on the first try. It’ll take time to figure out what works best for you and that’s okay.
