Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Allen.
Angela, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far. My creative journey has been a winding one. Although I’ve always been creative, I didn’t draw well in school, and my art classes didn’t teach abstract concepts, so I brushed off the idea of pursuing art. Eventually, I started painting in my late 20s to fill my empty apartment walls. It became a serious practice around 2013 when I gave myself enough time and space to explore my artistic ideas. I quickly developed my simple and bold style of work, and my clients grew from friends to designers and collectors.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create works of art on canvas and paper using a limited, neutral palette of black, white, nude, cream, and olive in a variety of mediums including watercolor, ink, acrylic, and oil. My work explores concepts of power and peace simultaneously through color and contrast and through heavy and light mediums. My hope is that viewers experience a sense of calm and empowerment through my body of work. I love the challenge of saying a lot with as little visual language as possible.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Speaking for myself, getting the right exposure and having a dedicated workspace.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be viewed online at angela-allen.com, and people can see my process, inspiration, and life on Instagram at @angelallen.
