Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Castro .
Amy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
The Los Angeles culture plays a major role in my work. I’d always go to local shows around my area and be inspired by poster designs and CD covers these bands would hand out. I got really into it in my high school years. I’d always leave my house to go to these local show and have music inspire me. I would record and come home and make short videos. At that time I’d be recording on my razor phone which was very terrible quality. One of my favorite bands, to inspire me with there galactic designs was Professor Galactico. They’d hand out amazing stickers to promote their band, and I’d save every each and one of them. I never knew I could make a career out of creating design work for entertainment in general.
I never knew what my passion was. I just knew I had to continue going to school because I was the first generation in my family to ever go to college. In me, all I wanted to do was create posters for these local bands and get paid. That was only the beginning of my career.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a graphic designer and photographer based in Los Angeles. I create these dark images of my world and what I see in the streets of Los Angeles. My message is to not be afraid to be different. We are all unique in our own way. Every time I take a photograph of someone. It’s exciting to see what peoples reactions are and make people feel like if they can feel confident so can I. As a designer I also try to incorporate photos and texts together to better represent my messages.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success for me is making a huge impact and influencing others with my work, just continuing to be myself and keep bettering my work not comparing it to others because we all have an eye for things and opinions. As for me, success is being able to share my work with others and motivate.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
