We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tay Robinson. Check out our conversation below.
Tay, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Honestly, it’s not that I was ever afraid I just never felt like I was truly ready to step into that role. For years, people in the beauty industry would come to me with questions, wanting guidance, and I’d give little tips here and there, but I never saw myself as “the mentor.” I was still focused on building my own path and perfecting my craft.
Now, something’s shifted. I feel ready not just to share what I know, but to really pour into others and help guide the next generation of artists. I’ve been in this game long enough to know the struggles, the late nights, the mistakes to avoid, and the shortcuts that actually work. And I know how much it means to have someone in your corner who’s been where you’re trying to go.
So, what I’m being called to do now is give back in a bigger way not just by creating beauty on the outside, but by helping other artists grow their confidence, find their lane, and make their mark. It’s like I’ve gone from just chasing my own dreams to helping others catch theirs too.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Tay, a hairstylist who’s been doing hair for 30 years and working in the wedding industry for 16 of those years. I started Beyond All Beauty because I love helping people feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful whether it’s for their wedding day, a special event, or just because.
I specialize in different hair extension methods as well as creating timeless styles that last through life’s most important moments. I think what makes my work special is the personal connection I build with my clients. I’m not about trends just for the sake of trends, I focus on what truly works for each person so they can feel like themselves, only elevated. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to work with all kinds of clients, from everyday people to those in the spotlight, and I treat them all with the same care.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a kid, I genuinely believed I could save the world. Not in a small way either, I thought I’d grow up and somehow fix everyone problems. As I got older, I realized the world is a little more complicated than that. But I also learned that even though I can’t save the entire world, I can make a difference in my own corner of it by helping people feel good about themselves, mentoring other artists, and creating spaces where people feel seen and valued. So, in a way, that belief is still there it just looks a little different now.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to trust God and my intuition more. Don’t lean on your own understanding lean on Him. Don’t rush the process; everything unfolds the way it’s meant to. Slow down, enjoy the moments, and pay attention to the red flags. When you see them, don’t wait cut off the people, places, and things that don’t serve you. Life gets so much lighter when you trust the path and let go of what’s not for you.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is the real me, but it’s the version that fits the moment. I believe there’s a time and place for everything. If we’re at a business meeting, you’re getting the professional side of me. If I’m with my friends, you’re getting the more personal, relaxed side. No matter the setting, it’s still the real me, I just show the part of me that makes sense for that environment.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I think my clients would miss the personal care and attention that Beyond All Beauty is known for the kind of service where quality really matters, and you feel truly seen and valued every time. As a personal hairstylist, I think they’d miss the value I bring. I’m a hairstylist who really cares about hair care, quality, and time. I’m more of an old-school stylist, while a lot of people today like “microwave service,” I might take a few extra minutes but you’re going to get quality work that lasts, and an experience that’s just as important as the hairstyle. My clients know they’ll get my full attention, great conversations, and the best customer service every single time.
